16.06.2009 :: Genesis 23

Anglican Cycle of Prayer:
Psalm: 10:1-12,16-18 Mk 7:24-37
Oregon - (Province VIII, USA) The Rt Rev'd Johncy Itty

Reading:
Genesis 23

Thoughts:
Sarah has died. Abraham wants to bury her, but he wants to do it on his own land. He won't accept charity, even in this time of grief.

To my mind, this is a type of humility. Abraham could have taken any land he wanted from the Hittites; they were offering it to him freely. But he insisted on paying for it. It is important, I think, to recognize the value of things and pay a fair price for them before we take possession of them.

Everything has a price - life, death, and all that comes in between. Sometimes that price is emotional, sometimes it is physical, and sometimes it is fiscal.

But there is always a price.
